I used this project with The Bean Trees and The Lord of the Flies, but it could be adapted for any novel.

Research Step:

· Go on the Internet and explore home pages. Look for as many as you can find in the time allowed. One way to find home pages is to go to yahoo and type in "family home pages" in the search window. Another fun way is to type your last name in the search window of the search engine of your choice and look at the home pages of people who share your last name.

· Make a list of elements that you find common to most home pages

· Make a list of elements, which you find that are unique to the person creating the home page.

Analysis Step:

· Choose a character from your novel for whom you will develop a home page.

· Get to know your character well. What things might this person put on his/her home page?

· Make a list of the graphics and writing that you will put on your home page.

Creating Step:

· I will give you an html cheat sheet to help you  create your character’s home page.  Or you can go to http://www.webmonkey.com  for help. Your project should contain a minimum of 3 graphic elements and 5 written elements.

· Once you have created the home page, save as a web page on our class website (I will give you the URL).  You can create the page directly on the web site, or in Word and then cut and paste into the website (graphics will have to be uploaded separately and coded on the website.

Evaluation Step:

· Using the rubric supplied, and working with two partners, view and evaluate your character home page.

· Hand written evaluation in with your web address.

· Your evaluation will be determined by your partner evaluations and my evaluation using the same rubric.
