To
launch FrontPage and open new web:

Click on Start

location will be the address on the board..

the location of the new web as http://www.ysd.k12.sd.us/your

Put your

Choose One
Page Web and click OK.

When you get to your website, double click on the index page. This is where you will begin. Do not use New Page 1 at this time. | ||

Enter the name of your home page and save as Index page |

– Themes

Select Apply
to All Pages. (You may later change the theme of certain pages but it is
better to keep the same theme throughout a web site)

Select
any theme you want, and click OK.

when asked if you want to apply this theme to your web page.

Formatting Background
(If you don’t want to use a theme, you will use this option of
formatting the background.)

Click on Format.

Click on Background from the drop-down menu.

From the Background tab, click on Background Picture.

Click on Browse.
ü
Click on the icon that looks like a folder with a magnifying
glass on it. This will allow you to
go to whichever file you have saved your background in.
(For example, if you saved a background picture in your C file, then you
would go to the C file to retrieve it.)
ü
Click on the file you wish to open.
ü
Click OK.
ü
Click OK again, and your background will appear on the web page
you are designing.

ADDING NEW PAGES AND SETTING UP YOUR NAVIGATION VIEW.
An easy way to set up your navigation view is to add new pages in the Navigation view.
(This
effect helps you to organize your outline on the screen.
This will automatically link the pages how you want them to be linked
without having to hyper-link anything.)
ü
Under Views
on the tool bar, click on Navigation.
ü
A single
box will appear. This will be your
first page. Name this page by
clicking in the box and typing in a
name for your homepage.
ü
You will
want to outline your web site here. Right
click on the first box.
ü
From the
drop-down menu, select New --- Page.
ü
A new box
will appear. Click on the box to
rename it (ie. Cyberbiology).
ü
Continue
to map your pages however you would like them linked. If you want to move a box, simply click and drag it.
You can always go back into this view to add or delete or rename pages
later.

Inserting Page Banners and Navigation Bars.

If you did not use themes, open your Index page. Type your page title centered at the top of the page. Choose Heading 1 for size. Choose Font and color for your heading. | ||

If you want to put your Page Title in a Banner, go to insert, Clip Art, choose Banners, insert your chosen banner centered at the top of the page. Create a text box in the banner and type in your page title using Heading size that will fit your banner | ||
|
If you used themes, Place your cursor in center of page at top. Click Insert, Page Banner. Click Picture, type page name in Page Banner space and Click OK. |

To Insert Background Sound or Music

(A table will allow you to be more flexible in
editing your text or moving your graphics. It is also a nice way to organize
your page topics to make hyperlinks to those pages.)

The next menu will ask you to choose the number of columns and
rows. If you choose to change this
number later, it is easily done.

Your table will now appear on you page.
You can then type in the table, insert Word Art, or insert a graphic.

If you right click on a cell, you can then choose cell
properties for that cell. You may
choose to change the color, font, placement, border color, or background color.
ü
If you right click on the table highlighted, you can then
choose table properties. You can then change table borders, background colors,
or insert a picture for your background.
Click on Word Art symbol and choose style. Click OK

Select the direction for your marquee to come in.
(It is probably easiest for others to read if it comes in from the left.)

(The lower the number, the slower the speed.)

Select how you want your marquee to come in – slide or
scroll.

Select the background color.
(If you want your marquee to come in on your background, leave it as
automatic. If you want a long box
for the marquee to come in on, select a different background color.)
Note: Remember that you have to be in the preview stage in order to
see your marquee move.

Highlight the words/picture you would like to use
ü
Click on Hyperlink Button (world with chain) or insert
hyperlink or right mouse click/hyperlink
ü
A hyperlink screen will come up. You may hyperlink one of four
different ways:

ü Once you have your address listed in the Address line, click OK, and your hyperlink should be set.
(Bookmarks move you to a certain site within a page
without having to make so many pages. Bookmarks
are made for within a page. )
ü
It is really easiest if you enter all your information first.
ü
Click in front of the line that you want to set the bookmark.
ü
Click on Insert on the menu bar.
ü
Select Bookmark.
ü
A bookmark screen comes up and asks you to name your bookmark.
It also shows if you have any other bookmarks on this same page

ü
Once you have entered the bookmark name, select OK.
ü
A little flag will appear in front of your line.
This will not show on your web page; it is merely a mark so you known
where you set the bookmark.
ü
Continue doing Steps 2-6 until you have set all the bookmarks
that you want on this page.
ü
To hyperlink to your bookmark, you highlight the words/picture
you want to make hot.
ü
Click on the Hyperlink Button, and the hyperlink screen will
come up.
ü
Instead of entering a URL, there is an area below that says
bookmark. Use the drop down arrow
to select the bookmark you are linking to.)
ü
Select OK, and the bookmark should now be set.
ü Continue to set links to your bookmarks as needed.
Bookmarks
with Themes – Going to the Top of the Page.
ü
Because the very top part of each theme page is used for title
and navigation bars, you cannot place bookmarks there. To return to the top of a
page, insert a hover button or other object at the bottom of the page and link
it to the current page from the hyperlink options. This takes you to the very
top of the page.
(A hover button is actually a fancy hyperlink.
After you have set a hover button, it works like a hyperlink.)

Select Insert on the file menu.
ü
Select Component.
ü
Select Hover Button.
ü
Type in words you would like on your hover button.
ü
In the link to line, click on Browse.
ü
The hyperlink screen will come up, and it is just like setting
a hyperlink.
ü
Once you have completed the hyperlink, select OK.
ü
This will take you back to the hover button screen.
ü
Set your color, effects, etc.
ü
Select OK.

Click Insert – Component – Hit Counter.
ü
Select a counter style.
ü
Select Fixed Number of Digits. Type 3 for the number of digits.
(This is probably enough for most personal web sites.
You can change the number of digits any time. )
ü
You can also select a beginning number by selecting <reset
to> and typing a number into that box
ü
Click Ok.
ü
To see the counter, you may have to preview in the browser.
(You may have to click on refresh icon to see the current count.)
(This function is used to temporarily display a
different picture over or instead of your current one when you move the mouse
pointer over it. It assumes you have already inserted a picture on your web
page.)

Select the picture you want to replace by clicking on it in
Normal View.
ü
Click Format – Dynamic HTML Effects. This displays HTML
toolbar on your screen.
ü
In the <choose an event> window, select Mouse
Over.
ü
In the <choose an effect> window, select Swap
Picture.
ü
In the <choose setting> window, select Choose
Picture.
ü
Select the picture you want to swap, and click OK.
ü
Go to the preview mode and move the mouse pointer over picture
to see the swap effects.

After you have created your website, you will have to know how to open it in order to work on it or add more pages.

Once you are in your web you can create your new page. It will appear as New Page 1 or 2 or some number. Be sure that when you save it, you save it under a name so you will recognize it. Keep save names short as they will become part of the URL for that page. NEVER EVER SAVE A PAGE AS NEW PAGE 1 OR NEW PAGE 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALWAYS CLICK ON SAVE AS AND GIVE A NAME IN THE FILE NAME SPACE THE FIRST TIME YOU SAVE A PAGE. | ||
