Second Quarter Literature Based Research Paper

Course Policies

I know that this will be a new experience for all of you.  Just keep with me and have patience and you may begin to like this approach to learning.  Students in Cyber classes are engaged on a journey to discover new skills, new ways of thinking, and new methods of inquiry.  In addition to improving writing skills, cyber students develop valuable web building skills and the ability to direct their own learning.

Goals are achieved over time, with each student making progress at a different rate, through different means, and with differing results.

However, because of the necessity of judging progress and issuing progress reports, tasks will need to be completed by certain dates.  Always check the Monthly Requirements to make sure that you are going to be able to complete your work on time.

Parents are encouraged to talk with their son or daughter about progress and goals and successes.  E-mail is the easiest way to contact the teacher, by either the parent or the student.  There is a mailto link on this and every page of this website.

Lesson plans are posted weekly on the lesson plan page on the school website.  Grades are updated weekly on the K12 Planet website.  Both of these are also accessible at the school website http://www.ysd.k12.sd.us/yhs

Teacher's Policies:

1.  All major assignments must be completed in order to pass the course.

2.  Most work in this class is ongoing.  The only deadlines are the monthly deadlines.  You must meet all monthly deadlines.  Since most work in done in class (except reading), you will not have a problem with this if you are conscientious about how you use your time in class.

3.  Failure to have work completed by a deadline will result in a reduction in grade.  Work will be docked one letter grade a day when it is late.

4.  I follow the school policy about work made up because of absence.  If you need extra time, I am here by 7:45 am and stay until at least 5:00 pm everyday.  You may come in and get help then or during 2nd hour which is my planning period.

5.  PLAGIARIZING is not allowed.  I realize using the internet makes it very easy, but the price you will pay if caught (and you will be caught) is too high.  Any assignment that has been plagiarized in whole or in part from either a print or an Internet source will receive a 0.  That assignment will then have to be redone, but you will not get credit for it.  If this is a major assignment, you will receive an F for that quarter.

6.  I do not give extra credit work; however, students do have the opportunity to revise work for a higher grade.  In this class you will have the opportunity to constantly revise until one week before the end of the semester.
