Life has a different purpose to everyone. In the book Jonathon Livingston Seagull, Jonathon’s purpose in life was to fly. He faced very difficult obstacles during his life, and he also got to spend a lifetime teaching other gulls how to fly.
All Jonathon seagull wanted to do was fly. During the day, Jonathon practiced flying instead of looking for food like the other gulls. Because of this, he was outcast from his flock and sent to live alone until he died. Jonathon wasn’t sad about this because being outcast from his flock meant that he would able to practice flying without having to hear criticism from the members of his flock.
Jonathon spent his life learning how to fly, and when his time finally came, two beautiful seagulls came and took him to a place that Jonathon thought was heaven, but it wasn’t. There he was with other gulls like him who loved flying, and who had been outcast from their flock. Jonathon was taught new flying tricks by an elder gull. When the elder gull had done his time, Jonathon took his job and started to teach the new gulls all about flying. In the end, Jonathon learns a lesson, but you will have to read the story to find out.
During Jonathon’s life he underwent many challenges. He faced the fear of being outcast from his flock and having to leave his family. He spent his whole life alone teaching himself how to fly. Even under these conditions, Jonathon remained happy, and he kept doing what he wanted to do, even if it meant being alone.
From this book I learned that doing what you love doesn’t always have the best results, but in the end, being true to yourself and doing what you were meant to do in life is all that matters.

What is life about? To some people, life is about fulfilling a certain job that they were put on earth to do. To others, life is only about going through the motions of being born, living, and then dying. Life to me is about being yourself, not living your life in order to please other people, and sharing your skills and love with the world.
Life isn’t about trying to please other people. If someone doesn’t like you because of your clothes, looks, or income, then you have no reason to try and be friends with them. Life is about doing and accomplishing things that make you a better person. Even though the things you want to do are sometimes the right choice, they aren’t always the most popular or "cool" things to do. Just because they aren’t popular doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go ahead and do them. Take a chance and head down the unpaved road. Life is about being true to yourself, not other people.
In your life, you should do at least one thing for humanity. Being unselfish and helpful to the community is part of our duty during out lifetime. People who don’t help out, and keep all their wealth and services to themselves are not only missing out on how good it feels to do good deeds, but they are missing out on the chance to fill a missing hole in their heart.
I think that everyone is put on Earth for a reason. Some people find out when they are young what they are meant to do, others don’t find out until they are old and retired. Everyone’s life is equally important. Realizing this is one thing I could do to make my life better. I need to understand that I am just as important as everyone else, that I should do everything I possibly can to live my life to the fullest, and be true to myself.
