Quote of Book

A River Runs
Through It is by Norman McLean that is a book of many quotable quotes.
There were many passages I found very interesting, but one of the quotes I
read I thought was an awesome quote. It read, “When I was young, a
teacher had forbidden me to say ‘more perfect’ because she said if a
thing is perfect it can’t be more so.”
I am not for sure if it is an importance but I think it is the
perfect quote from the book. The way Norman MacLean says it in the book, I
think is trying to say that no one or nothing is perfect, other than God.
He shows it bye using his brother. Paul maybe the perfect fisher but he
isn’t perfect in other areas. Like he is into gambling, which is a bad
thing, most of the time.
This quote I
thought was very impressing, and very appealing. Something about this
quote made me stop put the book down and think about it. Then I hurried to
pick it back up and read more of this book. I feel the language in this
passage is beautiful and just really well turned-out.
Some other quotes I thought where good ones were, “eventually all
things merge into one and a river flows through it.” I think this quote
shows that Paul and Norman where like the river and the river ran through
them. They were like the same person but on one side one knew how to fish
well and the other was better at other things. Another quote is “I am
haunted by waters.” This quote made me feel uplifted with fear. When
Norman wrote this in his book, everyone in his family had died, even his
wife. In this quote it talks about the waters haunting him. The reason he
says this is because his brother and his father both were fishermen and
they fished all the time. They always went fishing together, Norman, Paul
and their father. So everything Norman knows about his family is in the
waters because that is where they spent most their time. This quote makes
you think about your loved ones and how much they mean to you. Well at
least it did for me.
