Character Sketch
It was early in the morning on a summer day about eight o’clock. I was just getting my stuff ready to go fishing with my best friend Tyler Andera down at the Missouri River. Tyler came to my house about a half and hour later all ready to go. He had his fishing boots on, jean shorts, a shirt, and a fishing vest with all his lures on it. I only had some tennis shoes on, shorts, and a shirt. My mother gave us a ride down to the river since we both weren’t old enough to drive.
I first meet Tyler when I was very young; around the age of one is what my mother tells me. Tyler has always been bigger than me, but I have always been taller than him. He grew up with some freckles, but they went away has he got older. He also has curly blonde hair and blue eyes.
It was now nine o’clock by the time we got down to the river and all ready to fish. This was only my third time fishing ever, so I wasn’t really good at casting or even putting a worm on my hook. As I was trying to get the worm on my hook, Tyler had already cast into the river, and on his first try he got a small mouth bass.
I look at him and said, "You are very lucky."
He looked at me and said, "It is all skill," and then he said, "Do you want some help getting your worm on?"
I felt really stupid that I couldn’t even get the worm on, but he came right over and helped me with it. He also showed me how to cast the right way so that it went farther then ten feet, which was how far my first cast went. It took me a couple of tries to get the cast down, but I finally did. Tyler had already caught four fish, so I was getting a little jealous. I was about to give up, when all a sudden I felt a tug on my line. I had one of the greatest rushes ever when I pulled that fish in. I didn’t care that it was small than all of Tyler’s; I was just happy that at last I had caught a fish.
That was only one of the exciting and kind of frightening things that happened that day. After being there for about three hours, Tyler and I were getting a little tired and decided to take a break for a while. We went and sat down under a big oak tree when all of a sudden a huge dog came walking toward us. The dog was foaming from the mouth, so we were a little scared and not sure what to do. I looked at him, and he told me to climb up the tree because we thought the dog had rabies. After what I thought was a billion years, the dog finally left, and we thought that we should go and fish again before my Mom came to pick us up in about thirty minutes.
Then another thing happened. I was getting my worm on the hook when Tyler casts back with his rod getting ready to whip it across the water. His hook flew back and got stuck in my head. I yelled and told him to stop what he was doing before he yanked on it and cut my head open. Luckily he heard me, and right before he was going to give it all he had, he stopped. Tyler walked over to me and helped me get the hook out of my head. I looked up and saw that my mother had just pulled in to pick us up. I was really happy to see her because I was tired of fishing.
On the way home we told my Mom all that had happened during the day, and she couldn’t believe it. She said that she would never let us go fishing alone again, but of course she did eventually. I know from that day forward that Tyler was my best friend and would do anything for me to help me out. Tyler and I have talked about that day a lot, bringing up every little detail, and he will never let me forget that I couldn’t even get a single worm on my hook.
