Horwitz's Point of View

Up

It was a quiet, calm Saturday night and most everyone was off the streets. I suddenly saw this tall, lengthy teenager coming up the road. He asked me if I could give him a lift. After he got in, we started making a conversation. He asked me if I knew where the ducks go when the lake froze over. Obviously they stay there I told him. I was getting pretty angry at him about this time. He kept talking about ducks and made no sense at all. I was getting so annoyed at him. I probably shouldn’t have gotten so hard on that kid. He was just asking me stupid questions. I wonder why he wanted to know where the ducks and fish went in the winter. He kept saying how sore I was. I don’t think I was being sore at all. I so wished that Holden would just quit talking or talk about something more productive.

He then asked me if I wanted to go with him to get a drink. I didn’t have any time for liquor.

I told him, “ If you were a fish, Mother Nature’d take care of you, wouldn’t she? You don’t think them fish just die when it gets to be winter, do ya?”

What I meant by this was that animals know what they need to do to survive. Mother Nature knows what to do. Just leave it up to her. Animals just don’t die when the seasons change.

Holden got out and boy was I relieved. I kind of felt sorry for him though. He didn’t look like he had a family and he seemed really lonely. He should learn how to live on his own though. He is old enough to figure stuff out on his own.
