It was a warm, sunny day. Kylie and Chloe were sitting at home by themselves because their parents were out. Kylie, sixteen years old, was taking care of her younger sister, Chloe, who was 7 years old. Their two younger brothers, Slater and Johnny were 5 year old twins. They decided to go to the fair.

At the fair, they liked to see the animals, ride the rides, and play the games. Slater went over to the camels. Slater was always getting into trouble. He sneaked away from his sisters and unlatched the camels’ pen. The camels started running around the fairgrounds. Slater started running for his life. He almost got trampled! He ran toward Kylie, running out of breath. “ Was that you Slater?” Kylie shouted angrily. 

“ Huh, was what me?” Slater acted as if he didn’t know what his sister was talking about.

The camels started running toward the rides and everyone was running toward their vehicles for safety. Slater felt really bad and tried to hide. He took his twin, Johnny, with him and headed toward the bathroom.

 “ What are we going to do?” Slater asked Johnny. “ It’s all my fault!”

 “ I think I have an idea.” Stated Johnny. “ What if we let the elephant go too? Since you already let the camel out, what would it hurt if we let the elephant out too?”

 “ Are you kidding? I’m already in deep hot water as it is!”

“ Fine, then I’ll go do it myself.”

“ Okay, go ahead. It’s not my problem.”

Slater went back to Kylie and Chloe so he wouldn’t get in more trouble then he already was. The next thing Slater knew, an elephant came charging after them. Kylie took Chloe and Slater and ran to their vehicle and drove away, leaving Johnny behind.

“ Is Johnny here?” asked Kylie nervously.

“ No he isn’t.” answered Slater.

“ We are going back. We can’t leave him there by himself.”

“ The elephant and the camels are with him!”

“ If something happens to him, how will I explain it to mom and dad?”

“ Oh yea, you’d be in major trouble!”

As they arrived back to the fairgrounds, Kylie locked Slater and Chloe in the vehicle while she searched for Johnny. When she got over by the bathrooms, she noticed someone lying on the ground right outside the bathroom door. She screamed and ran over to it!  As she came closer, she noticed that it was a little boy. She knew it was Johnny. Her heart was racing as fast as a racehorse on a dirt track. She knelt down beside him and started to cry. After a couple of seconds, Johnny yelled, “ 18…19…20…ready or not, here I come!”

Kylie couldn’t believe what she just heard! Johnny was okay! She jumped on him and gave him a big hug.

“ What’s wrong with you?” Johnny asked.

“ You are alive!”

“ Of course I am silly! Will you excuse me for a moment? I’m right in the middle of playing a game of hide and go seek.”

“ With who? You and Slater scared everyone away with the camels and the elephant!”

“ Well it just so happens that they are my friends now. Since I let them out, they like me.”

“ I really thought you were hurt! You never leave my side again okay? Something bad could have happened.”

“ Okay, I’m really sorry. I won’t do it again. Can I go tell my friends bye?”

“ Sure. Go ahead.”

While Johnny was telling his friends goodbye, Kylie went over to the vehicle and took Slater and Chloe out and told them the good news. She brought them over to meet Johnny’s new friends.

“ I’ll come again guys, but I won’t be able to take you out of your pens because…you know why. I’ll come visit you though.” Johnny said.

Elephant and the camels said that was fine, and thanked him for the fun time they had together. They even gave the other kids rides on their backs. Kylie helped Slater and Johnny put them back in their pens. They all waved goodbye and headed off.

On the way home, Johnny whispered to Slater, “ I’m sure glad we let Elephant and the camels out because I made some really great friends, even if Kylie kind of got angry at us. It turned out to be a great experience.”
