There
are many great quotes from the book, “ A River Runs Through It”. One of my
favorites that has the most meaning to me is, “ Eventually, all things merge
into one, and a river runs through it. I am haunted by waters.” These were the
last quotes of the book that was said by Norman. These are small quotes, but
when you think about it, they have a lot of meaning behind them. These quotes
are the perfect quotes from the book because the whole book is pretty much
summed up by these quotes.
These
two lines are important to the book’s meaning and message. “ Eventually, all
things merge into one, and a river runs through it,” is an important quote
meaning that all the problems and life that is going on, have a river running
through it. The river relies on everything.
When
Norman said, “ I am haunted by water,” he meant that there was memories that
were made at the river when he and his brother fished there. They spent a lot
of time fishing together. The two brothers didn’t actually get along that
well. They both had their own lives and their own ways of doing things. I think
Norman felt guilty that he hadn’t helped his brother as much as he should have
and didn’t have the best relationship with him. He regrets him going to bars
getting drunk, and getting into that fight that caused his death. The waters
haunt Norman.
These
quotes have a lot of meaning. Norman wrote these quotes for a reason. He wanted
to express himself and tell the readers how he feels about the river and
himself. He feels that he is responsible for Paul’s death. “ Eventually, all
things merge into one, and a river runs through it. I am haunted by waters.”
