Brook Trout

October 7, 2003 pg. 1-15

Quotes:

" It is an art that is performed on a four-count rhythm between ten and two o'clock."

" Undoubtedly, our differences would not have seemed so great if we had not been such a close family."

I don't really connect with Norman or Paul because I've never gone fly fishing before, so it's kind of hard to understand what they are talking about. I kind of relate in a way because I like being outside and in nature.

October 8,2003 pg. 15- 30

Quotes:

" No fish could live out there where the river exploded into the colors and curves that would attract photographers."

" One great thing about fly fishing is that after a while nothing exists of the world but thoughts about fly fishing."

I didn't connect in this part of the book either. I don't find much excitement with trying to catch a fish, or getting the fishing line caught in a bush. I don't find that much interest in fly fishing as Norman and Paul.

October 9, 2003 pg. 30-45

Quotes:

" Fishing is a world created apart from all others, and inside it are small special worlds of their own."

" The cast was high and soft when it went by my head, the opposite of what it would have been if it was being driven into the wind."

These quotes mean a lot of things. Fishing is a world itself. These quotes explain how dedicated the fisherman were about fishing.

October 13, 2003 pg. 46- 60

Quotes:

" Seeley Lake is where we have our summer cabin."

" I survived the next day and the day following, when Paul and I crossed the Continental Divide and left the world behind, so I thought."

October 14, 2003 pg. 60-76

Quotes:

" Suddenly we turned and came out of that water with a roar, like two animals as they finish fording a river, making jumps when the water gets shallower and bringing waves to shore long after they got there.

" Fishermen also think of the river as having been made with them partly in mind, and they talk of it as if it has been."

October 15, 2003 pg. 76-91

Quotes:

" When I was young,  a teacher had forbidden me to say " more perfect" because she said if a thing is perfect it can't be more so.

" I was at the wheel, and I knew before we started just where we were going."

October 16, 2003 pg. 91-104

Quotes:

" Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it."

" I am haunted by waters"

These are very important quotes. Norman is haunted by waters because his brother and him almost lives by the river. They spent a lot of time together there. Now Norman is left with just the momories.
