I am the Missouri River

Sometimes called the Mighty Mo

I am from the snow-capped mountains

From the muddy banks

From the rocky rapids

I am from the erosion of glaciers, wind, and water

I am from the springs and tributaries

From the mouth in Montana

I am the refreshing drink

From the rocky rapids

From the calming streams

I am from exploration of the west

I am from the construction of dams by beavers and humans

From the heating of the sun

And cooling of the breeze

I am the river,

The Missouri River.

I am from Montana

To Missouri to the

Gulf of Mexico flowing

Along with my

Friend the Mississippi.

I am from the cars and rocks

That contain my banks,

From dirty water before

The Gavin's Point Dam

Becoming clean after.

I am from "Big Muddy"

Before the dam was created,

I am from sand and

Mud on my floors,

From the new life of

Water that flows through

With the current each second.

Rapid flowing waters

To Missouri

Into the Mississippi

Fish swimming in my current

Giant dams in my way

I am from "BIG MUDDY"

I am from the banks with cars and other things on them

I am from Gavin’s point dam

I am from Lewis and Clark

Traveling through my waters

I am from all the bacteria and murky waters

I am from all the dams that get in my way

I am from the boats and skiers that scream across my water

The pollution that is thrown in my way

All the seaweed and driftwood that runs up on the beaches

From snow cap mountains melting in the warm sun

I am from rocks that tumble down from the mountains

From the sand and mud

Springs and water

From hail and sleet

Dew and fog

I am from boating and skiing

Tubing and snorkeling

From fishing to skydiving

I am from giving life

From the color green and blue

I am from spillways

Waterfalls and dams
