There have been many places that have been important and have become a part of me. One of them that I think is the most important is my backyard at my house. There have been too many memories to count when I was there. No matter what, something is always happening when I am in the backyard.
My backyard consists of various types of flowers and a huge yard that is truly beautiful. It is impossible to find a place where there are no flowers or plants including shrubs. Due to my parents’ and my hard work, we received Yard of the Month for July during this year. This gives you an idea of what it is like. The backyard is completely enclosed by a brown fence on two sides and a white fence on one side. You do not have to worry about becoming too hot during the summer. There are large trees that have developed to provide plenty of shading. The white deck that extends out from my parents’ room in the backyard surrounds the hot tub. The shed that matches our house is found near the white fence. You will also find a basketball hoop, and there used to be a trampoline. This is how my backyard looks.
The trampoline has probably provided me with the most thoughts when it comes to my backyard. When I was in fifth grade, I had my birthday party at my house. It had a little twist to it though. My friends and I had a Sock ‘Em Boppers war on the trampoline. It was one of the best games that I did on it. However, there was only one bad, or should I say hurtful part about it. I stumbled back and was standing on the metal bar on the edge and thought that I could just come back on, but I was wrong. One of my friends hit me while I was on the edge on the bar and each leg went on each side of it and I came down right on it. Well, you should get the picture that it was not pretty. All in all, it still turned out to be great.
My friends and I also played many other games. The basketball hoop lets us play different types of basketball games. On the trampoline, we would do anything from “keep away” with teams to “kill the carrier”. Once in a while in the summer, I would put the sprinkler underneath it and cool off. I even had a tent to go over the top of the comfortable trampoline so that we could sleep out on it without the bugs. Even though we recently got rid of it due to liability issues in case people got hurt, it still is a part of the backyard.
I think the wildlife think that the backyard is a wonderful place because we have had about every type of animal in it at some point in time. Squirrels, gophers, rabbits, and many others have made their way to find our yard. We had several ducks that stayed at our house throughout the entire summer of this year. It started off with two ducks, a brown female and a white male. The male was actually here by himself about three summers before this past one and stayed here the whole summer. So, of course, the female laid an egg one day and began to make a nest out of woodchips. Everyday she laid one egg until there were fifteen eggs. Ten of them ended up hatching and made the front page of the newspaper. We continued to raise them throughout the summer and tried to take them back to the park several times, but they kept coming back to our yard. Just recently, we moved them out of the yard, and they went back to the park after a while.
I have just told you about my backyard and the many reasons why the backyard is a huge part of me. As you can tell, you would find several things in my backyard. There have been many memorable moments that I have spent here that all seem like they just happened yesterday.
