The Great Depression started when I was about eight years old in Faith, South Dakota. I was in second or third grade. I remember my parents talking about how the stock market crashed during this time which led to many people losing money and their jobs. The economy was bad and I remember Roosevelt closed all their banks and many people lost their money. I lived in a little town and people struggled to get jobs and clothing. After the stock market crashed, it followed with a horrible drought. The parents had a hard time supporting kids without any jobs. This time period affected bigger cities more that suffered huge loses in employment. The little towns of faith, people shared belongings and food. These were very bad times and some people worried about how they were going to get by. It was hard, but we eventually got through it at the end.
