Quote of the book essay- MaryChar W Erickson
" Eventually all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks form the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some to the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters."
This quote has important meaning to the book in that it wraps up the entire book. It gives the book a title and makes you feel that life is a mysterious thing that is connected to everything.
This quote makes the book less about fishing and more about life. It makes me wonder and think deeper about the book and life in general. The line "all things merge into one" makes me think about all the things in life that work out if you don’t fret. All things work out in the end, and the river gently smoothes everything out. "Some of the rocks have been stained by timeless raindrops." This represents all the times people take a piece of our hearts and throw it on the ground. That is what runs through my mind when I read this quote.
The author carves beautiful language and describes the river with beautiful alliteration. The author uses alliteration when he writes river runs. Alliteration is a sharp way of getting the readers attention in a story. "And runs over rocks from the basement of time" makes you think, feel, and see how deep this river runs in his life.
This quote has special meaning to the reader. You see how deep his love for his brother is and how much the river means to Paul. He knows that the river really speaks to him and Paul. You see that the author thinks that his brother is still with the river today.
