The Special Child

By MaryChar Erickson

In the middle of winter on a bright sunny day, the ground covered in snow like a down blanket, there was a small child sitting by the fire with her mother and father. Their home was located far away from town, in dark forests of the countryside. This child was not a normal child, this child had special capabilities, she was able to read the minds of animals.

"Umm, mom can I go outside if I wear all of my snow gear?" asked Melinda.

" I suppose but make sure you don’t wander too far." Responded her mother Candy.

Melinda got herself ready and climbed into her puffy pink snowsuit and headed for an adventure. She headed back into the trees of the forest where she most felt like she belonged. She traipsed through the freshly fallen snow leaving nifty footprints behind. Melinda walked back to the deep cavern walls, where her friend Barry was waiting for her. Barry was not a normal everyday friend he was a grizzly bear. Barry was a 7-foot tall outcast bear that had no friends. Except for Melinda, she was his best friend in the forest. Barry really enjoyed his friendship with Melinda. She understood where he was coming from; she didn’t have many friends either. The two of them have a good relationship that is awkward but yet is a once in a lifetime friendship. They always spent the days together and lived happily ever after.
