Doing our project on North Africa’s involvement of World War II changed our perspective on this topic. At first we had no clue North Africa was even a part of the war, but now we know not only was it a part, but a major influence in the outcome of the whole war. Overall we learned America joined up with British forces to capture land and take over Axis powers in North Africa.
Working with a partner on this project made it much more easy to understand. Together we would put pieces of information we found to make the whole picture more clear and understandable. Collaborating on facts we found eventually expanded our knowledge on this subject.
Instead of doing a traditional story or essay we used a multigenre web. This way we could post all of our writings as we finished them. Doing it this way made us more organized and was also a new experience for us. From this web we hope you learn more about North Africa’s importance in World War II and the first hand view of someone who was there. We just want to remind you that the person we interviewed never fought in the main battles we addressed in our overview, but rather was in the area working on radio communication.
The genres we chose easily related to Mark, the interviewee. The newspaper article was an event that he distinctly remembers. Writing his wife letters was also an action he would do every chance he got. The recipe was one we chose because he mentioned that exact food and how he didn’t care for it. Lastly, our poem was just an overview of Mark’s whole life as he was involved in the war.
This whole project wouldn’t be possible without Mark. We would like to thank him for the information he provided us with. It gave us the chance to research and learn about a subject we had no idea about until this project. Thanks, Mark.
