Growing up I never really had that special place where I would go to think or clear my mind. There wasn’t some specific spot I would go that shaped me to be the person I am today. Here and there I would come across a tree or fort where I would enjoy going, but never did those places stay around to be part my life today. No matter what friend moved away, or what tree branches Grandpa cut down, one place where I would always find the most comfort was my room.
My room never seemed that important to me before. I thought of it only as somewhere to sleep and keep my clothes. I soon realized that when I needed to think or needed to get something off my back, I would go to my room. Every time my older brothers would pick on me, or my parents would yell at me, I would go to my room and cry. There I knew no one could hear me or judge me. I could always be my own person.
An important part about my bedroom is I can express myself. Here I use my creativity and memories of my friends to make it more special. This is where I get my individuality. I have framed and hung a ton of pictures of my friends on my walls. I also keep all my valuables and things that mean something to me here.
Throughout my life I have changed bedrooms three times. Each time I change locations it means something about me has matured. My first room was small because I wasn’t ready to take care of my stuff and wasn’t old enough to care how big my room was. The second room was bigger, but still close to my parents so when I would have a bad dream I could go next door and get comforted. Finally I got to make the move downstairs into my brother’s old room. It is away from my parents all by itself. Now I am away from everybody, so I feel that much more privacy.
Growing up I have had many memories that happened in my room. There have been all niters with my friends and I, and late night telephone calls. Here my friends and I have jammed out to music, cried and laughed when watching movies, and gotten ready for many dances and parties. One time we even spent all night painting and redecorated my room.
Now that I received a lap top computer this year, I have spent a lot more time downstairs in my getaway spot. Instead of doing my homework in my living room while watching TV with my family, I go downstairs and plug into the Internet. I have a stereo, TV, dvd player, and my computer to keep me busy. I basically live in there, so it is where a lot of important events take place. My room is the only place that has seen every side of me. It has helped and seen me grow up all these years.
