"Choosing Your Life"

Life has different meanings to different individuals. People might say life is as simple as being born, living, and eventually dieing. To many there’s more to it. You can take out of life what you choose. Life is about learning who you are. Different obstacles and lessons come up every now and then to test your character. The way you deal with these types of things determine what kind of life you decide to lead.

I think life is all about the chances you take and people you meet. Everyone has something to offer, so I think by getting to know everyone you can, you’ll gain a little something from each one. Those who judge someone before getting to know him or her are just cheating themselves from a possible relationship or lesson that person has to offer. To me having friends you can trust is the most important thing in life.

Taking chances makes life more interesting. You only live one, but if lived well once is enough. To me that means take every opportunity life hands you and have fun while doing it. Don’t live in fear from anything because in the end it wasn’t worth your time. Take chances at meeting new people and trying new things. You’ll never know what you can do until you have tried. I also think you shouldn’t hesitate to do anything, even if sometimes you know it’s not the right thing to do. I like to think that whatever won’t kill you will only make you stronger, so don’t waste your time worrying about something you have already done.

To make my life better I think I just need to remember to do all those things I just said. Meet new people, take chances, and don’t live in regret. I don’t want things that have happened to me in the past stop me from doing something different or better in the future. I just want to have fun while achieving my goals and dreams.

REVIEW

Symbolism is what Richard Bach used to tell his story of life in Jonathan Livingston Seagull. His views on freedom and life itself are showed through a flock of seagulls. Jonathan represents being free and doing what you want and not what others think you should do. He gets outcast and sent to a place he doesn’t know of. Other birds help him on his way learning how to fly and the meaning of love. Throughout the story, the author uses Jonathan’s actions to symbolize life meanings and lessons.

To me this book is hard to follow. I don’t always recognize what the birds are representing. Without having class discussions and a teacher who informed us on what was happening and the meaning of the author’s text, I wouldn’t have understood or liked this book. This book isn’t one I would choose to read, though it has many lessons to life and love that could be taken to heart.

Jonathan as a bird is an outcast, but to a human is someone who wants to be different and pursue what he is interested in. He doesn’t let anyone stop him from doing what he loves. This could be a valuable lesson to many individuals that have a hard time discovering who they are and their goals in life.
