"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. the river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by the waters." In the book, a river runs through it, I thought this quote had captured the true meaning of the novel.
When I first read the quote, I wasn't sure how the author was going about by saying these words. But after breaking the saying down and reading it over and over, I finally got what it meant to me. I thought that this quote had the most power towards the book, and really wrapped the whole story up in the end. I think the way the author wrote this last quote was the most perfect and beautiful way to end a book as good as the story, "A River Runs Through It."
"Eventually, all things merge into me, and a river runs through it." What I thought when read this part of the quote was that Norman was thinking about his life, and by saying a river runs through it, I believe he was talking about the obstacles in his life.
"The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time." After reading this quote over and over, I think about that something tragic must have happened in norms life. And when it says that the flood is running over these rocks from the basement of time, I believe that he's talking about how something just keeps reminding him of this tragic period in his life, and he just can't forget about it.
"On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops." When Norman says these words, I think about maybe he's saying that these timeless raindrops, might be tears, and maybe these tears may stop for a short period of time, but I think Norman is crying once in a while over the same thing. So what they are are endless tear drops.
" Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs." When Norman talks about how under the rocks are the words, I believe what he is trying to talk about is that inside, he has something to say or get off of his chest. But, when he says, "and some of the words are theirs," I think means that he wont let these words out, and by saying that the words are theirs, he means that something inside of him wont let him say it.
" I am haunted by the waters." This is the one quote that I think really brings out the book and really brings strong meaning to the novel. When Norman says that he is haunted by the waters, I think what he is trying to say is that his life and everything that has really happened to him, is evolved around the water. His life is the river, and everything that he does involves the water. Everything that has effected him has been the river, and I really believe that the water has effected him in every way.
I believe that in order for a book to be well written, and in order to capture the readers attention, I think that there has to be well written quotes throughout the story, not just at the end. I do believe that what made this novel good was the variety of quotes throughout the whole story. I think that this book was very nice written, and was a thought out book. The last quote expecially just captured the whole meaning to the story and showed what Norman was going through, and I think that without these last words and without this last quote, the book wouldn't have been was good as it was.
