Listed below are sample headlines for newspaper articles based on Kent Meyers The Work of Wolves
. Your group will create a 4-page newspaper (one page for each section) using similar titles as headlines for articles you will write. All newspaper articles must answer who, what, when, where, and why about the topic.The ** denotes important headline articles. Each newspaper must include all ** articles (two per section). These articles will contain the real, factual accounts of the events in The Work of Wolves. All other articles may be written a la the National Enquirer (a bit tongue-in-cheek). Each page must contain at least one minor article.
**Boys investigate mysterious horses.
German Exchange Student chooses to study on the reservation.
**German student discovers hidden secret about his father
Young couple explore haunted house.
**Goat Man sightings reported in the Badlands.
Each page of the newspaper must contain at least one of the following:
* A Dear____?____ column
with at least two letters and responses. The Author'spicture should accompany this column.
Ideas for letter beginnings include:
My father is trying to ...........
My friends are plotting to............
My mother is.............
I am ashamed of my father and my Grandmother..........
*A Eulogy or Obituary - this is an article or written speech praising the life of one of the
dead. An illustration of the tombstone could accompany this.
* An Opinion or Editorial - an article that states your position on some aspect of the
religious, political, jracial, or social scene in the story. Uses facts to support
your view. Your picture should accompany this piece.
*A Poem - might have been written by one of the characters in the novel to express fears, feelings, lost dreams, etc.
Each page must also contain one of the following:
*An Illustration of a headline article - this could be drawn or a scanned photo staged
for the article.
* A cartoon -
Either a comic strip (at least four squares - should comment on any subject covered in your novel)
Political Cartoon (1 large square dealing with personalities, social issues,
legal or cultural proceedings)
*An Advertisement - for a real or imaginary item on sale at the time and setting, or a
personal ad.

RULES FOR WRITING AND CREATING YOUR NEWPAPER
This is a group project. I suggest that each person be responsible for one section, one page. Each person would then write two main articles, at least one minor article, at least one written extra, and at least one illustration. Do not use the same written extra or illustration twice in your newspaper. Your group is responsible for dividing the novel into four parts. I would suggest using the four parts that the novel is already divided into.
1. All work will be created in Microsoft Publisher. (decide on one template for the whole
newpaper and do your work on the page assigned to you. Color may be used
for illustrations)
2.Mrs. Schulze must check rough drafts before you transfer pages to big paper.
a. limit ing action verbs (especially when used with be, am, is, are, was, were,
been, being.
b. Limit have, has, had, get, got, gets, gotten, seem seems, seemed, became,
becomes, become
c. Limit sentences beginning with as, while
d. No sentences begin with well, so
e. no telling adjectives (beautiful, loving, caring, cruel, etc.) Write Descriptively!
3. Each newspaper is four pages long (one for each scene)
4. Your newspaper must have a title (to be large on page one and smaller on pages
two, three and four.
5. Each page must be filled completely.
6. Pages must be printed out (on my color printer if there is color on the page) and
glued to both sides of poster size paper (I will supply).
7. Must be completed on time!
