To launch FrontPage and open new web:

Click on Startü
Click on Fileü
Your location will be your floppy disk in the a drive or the web address your teacher gives you.ü
Specify the location of the new web as your directory:\username\mywebs\index.ü
Choose One Page Web and click OK.To Insert a Theme:
ü
Click Format – Themesü
Select Apply to All Pages. (You may later change the theme of certain pages but it is better to keep the same theme throughout a web site)ü
Select any theme you want, and click OK.
ü
Click Yes when asked if you want to apply this theme to your web page.To Apply Shared Borders:
ü
Click Format and then Shared Borders.ü
Select All pages – Top – include navigation buttons.Click Ok.
ü
Right click on Edit the properties for this navigation bar to display hyperlinks here at the top of the screen.ü
Select Navigation Bar Properties from the window that pops up.ü
Set options to Child Level, Home Page, and Parent Page.ü
Click OK.
Setting up the Navigation
(This effect helps you to organize your outline on the screen. This will automatically link the pages how you want them to be linked without having to hyper-link anything.)

Under Views on the left side of the screen, click on Navigation.ü
A single box will appear. This will be your first page. Name this page by clicking in the box and typing in a name for your homepage.ü
You will want to outline your web site here. Right click on the first box.ü
From the drop-down menu, select New Page.ü
A new box will appear. Click on the box to rename it (ie. Family Things).ü
Continue to map your pages however you would like them linked. If you want to move a box, simply click and drag it. You can always go back into this view to add or delete or rename pages later.
To create a personal homepage:

In page view, place some text in "New page 1"ü
Insert some clip art by clicking Insertü
Click on selected clip art and click insert.(you can locate both clip art and animated clip art either in the clip art gallery or by clicking clip art online and going to the Microsoft clipart online gallery. You can also find clip art on free clip art sites on the internet.ü
Select at least one piece of animated clip artü
Click Fileü
Change file name to "index" if not already named thisü
Change page title if you wish by clicking "change"To create a mailto link:

Decide where you want to put mailto link. If you place it within the Shared Border, it will appear on every page. If you put it elsewhere in the page, it will only appear on that page.ü
Click Insertü
Enter "mail" in Search for clipsü
Choose "Motion"ü
Click on graphic and then on hyperlink symbol on tool barü
In dialog box, click the "make a hyperlink that sends email" button (the envelope)ü
In the "type an E-mail Address" enter your email addressü
Click OKü
Click the Save buttonTo add new page to your website (if you choose not to set up the Navigation at first:

Click on Navigation Viewü
Click on Index (Home) pageü

Enter a new nameü
In Page View – open new page and enter some textü

Formatting Background
(If you don’t want to use a theme, you will use this option of formatting the background.)

Click on Format.ü
Click on Background from the drop-down menu.ü
From the Background tab, click on Background Picture.ü
Click on Browse.ü
Click on the icon that looks like a folder with a magnifying glass on it. This will allow you to go to whichever file you have saved your background in. (For example, if you saved a background picture in your C file, then you would go to the C file to retrieve it.)ü
Click on the file you wish to open.ü
Click OK.ü
Click OK again, and your background will appear on the web page you are designing.
To Insert Background Sound or Music

Right Click on your page.ü
Click on Page Properties.ü
On the background menu, there is a section for sound. You will want to then browse for the location of your sound file that you saved. Click OK.ü
You can then choose the length of the music.ü
Click Ok again.
Inserting a Table
(A table will allow you to be more flexible in editing your text or moving your graphics. It is also a nice way to organize your page topics to make hyperlinks to those pages.)

Click on Tableü
Click on Insert and then Table.ü
The next menu will ask you to choose the number of columns and rows. If you choose to change this number later, it is easily done.ü
Your table will now appear on you page. You can then type in the table, insert Word Art, or insert a graphic.ü
If you right click on a cell, you can then choose cell properties for that cell. You may choose to change the color, font, placement, border color, or background color.ü
If you right click on the table highlighted, you can then choose table properties. You can then change table borders, background colors, or insert a picture for your background.
Inserting Word Art
ü
Open Microsoft Word.ü
Click on Insert.ü
From the drop-down menu, select Picture.ü
Click on Word Art.ü
Select your word art style.ü
Select font size.ü
Type in word or words to be displayed.
Adjust to whatever design you want.ü
If you would like to insert Word Art on a web page, you will first need to create it in Word and then Copy and Paste it to your web page.
To Copy and Save an Image/Video from the Internet
ü
Right mouse click on image you want to save.ü
Select Save picture as.ü
Select the place you want to save the picture (example a: my documents, etc.)ü
Select Save.
To Insert an Image/Clip Art/Video
ü
Make sure your cursor is placed in the spot that you would like the image placed.ü
Click on Insert on the Menu.ü
Scroll down to Picture and then choose From File.ü
Browse to the file that you saved.ü
Once you find the file, click on Insert.ü
Your image should then be inserted on your Web Page.
Inserting a Marquee
(This option will allow you to have words scrolling across the screen.)
ü
Click on Insert.ü
From the drop-down menu, choose Component.ü
Select Marquee.ü
Type the text of your marquee in the text box.ü
Select the direction for your marquee to come in. (It is probably easiest for others to read if it comes in from the left.)ü
Select the speed for your marquee. (The lower the number, the slower the speed.)ü
Select how you want your marquee to come in – slide or scroll.ü
Select the background color. (If you want your marquee to come in on your background, leave it as automatic. If you want a long box for the marquee to come in on, select a different background color.)Note: Remember that you have to be in the preview stage in order to see your marquee move.

To Make a Hyperlink

Highlight the words/picture you would like to useü
Click on Hyperlink Button (world with chain) or insert hyperlink or right mouse click/hyperlinkü
A hyperlink screen will come up. You may hyperlink one of four different ways:
a. If you are hyper linking to the World Wide Web, you may type the address or click on the button with the world/magnifying glass and go browse until you find the right page.
b. If you are hyper linking to a file, you may use the folder button by the address bar, or if it is another page already in your web, you should see it on the list above the address bar.
c. If you are hyper linking to e-mail, you click on the envelope and add the address.
d. If you are hyper linking to a new page, click on the button that looks like a sheet of white paper, and name it what you would like.

Once you have your address listed in the URL line, click OK, and your hyperlink should be set.
To Set Bookmarks within a Page
(Bookmarks move you to a certain site within a page without having to make so many pages. Bookmarks are made for within a page. )
ü
It is really easiest if you enter all your information first.ü
Click in front of the line that you want to set the bookmark.ü
Click on Insert on the menu bar.ü
Select Bookmark.ü
A bookmark screen comes up and asks you to name your bookmark. It also shows if you have any other bookmarks on this same pageü
Once you have entered the bookmark name, select OK.
ü
A little flag will appear in front of your line. This will not show on your web page; it is merely a mark so you known where you set the bookmark.ü
Continue doing Steps 2-6 until you have set all the bookmarks that you want on this page.ü
To hyperlink to your bookmark, you highlight the words/picture you want to make hot.ü
Click on the Hyperlink Button, and the hyperlink screen will come up.ü
Instead of entering a URL, there is an area below that says bookmark. Use the drop down arrow to select the bookmark you are linking to.)ü
Select OK, and the bookmark should now be set.ü
Continue to set links to your bookmarks as needed.
Bookmarks with Themes – Going to the Top of the Page.
ü
Because the very top part of each theme page is used for title and navigation bars, you cannot place bookmarks there. To return to the top of a page, insert a hover button or other object at the bottom of the page and link it to the current page from the hyperlink options. This takes you to the very top of the page.Inserting a Hover Button
(A hover button is actually a fancy hyperlink. After you have set a hover button, it works like a hyperlink.)

Select Insert on the file menu.ü
Select Component.ü
Select Hover Button.ü
Type in words you would like on your hover button.ü
In the link to line, click on Browse.ü
The hyperlink screen will come up, and it is just like setting a hyperlink.ü
Once you have completed the hyperlink, select OK.ü
This will take you back to the hover button screen.ü
Set your color, effects, etc.ü
Select OK.
Inserting a Hit Counter into your Web Page
ü
Click on the area of the page where you want to place the counter.ü
Click Insert – Component – Hit Counter.ü
Select a counter style.ü
Select Fixed Number of Digits. Type 3 for the number of digits. (This is probably enough for most personal web sites. You can change the number of digits any time. )ü
You can also select a beginning number by selecting <reset to> and typing a number into that boxü
Click Ok.ü
To see the counter, you may have to preview in the browser. (You may have to click on refresh icon to see the current count.)
Swapping Pictures
(This function is used to temporarily display a different picture over or instead of your current one when you move the mouse pointer over it. It assumes you have already inserted a picture on your web page.)

Select the picture you want to replace by clicking on it in Normal View.ü
Click Format – Dynamic HTML Effects. This displays HTML toolbar on your screen.ü
In the <choose an event> window, select Mouse Over.ü
In the <choose an effect> window, select Swap Picture.ü
In the <choose setting> window, select Choose Picture.ü
Select the picture you want to swap, and click OK.ü
Go to the preview mode and move the mouse pointer over picture to see the swap effects.

2. Click on Publish Web

3. Type URL of your website in the Specify location to publish you web blank.
4. Click "Publish"
5. Remember that any site you publish to must have FrontPage Extensions installed. Some free sites such as Angelfire, Tripod, and Geocities have FrontPage Extensions.
