The Loch Ness Monster

Back

Lake monsters have been sighted all around the world, but the most famous is the Loch Ness Monster. There have been over a thousand sightings, yet no one has actually found the real Loch Ness Monster. Although many people believe that there is a Loch Ness Monster out there, enough evidence exists to show that the Loch Ness Monster does not exist.

Ever since the year of 1933, the Loch Ness Monster has become an international media star. No other monster is as tied in with a country’s image as the monster is with Scotland. The Loch Ness Monster has been in hundreds and thousands of newspaper and magazine articles, books, and also has been in films. The Loch Ness Monster is the best-known lake creature in the world. This monster is known to be one of the most-sighted monsters in the world. There have been new sightings every year since 1933. (Searching for Nessie)

The very first person to sight this monster was a British bookmaker by the name of William Hill. He believes that this monster is worth one million dollars if anyone finds him. There have been many eyewitness sightings, but no live monsters have actually been caught after many attempts in different lakes. It is known that giant nets, submarines, underwater cameras, sonar, and crews have all failed while attempting to find this monster, and prove the creature is real. On the other hand, the great number of eyewitness sightings that show no signs of abating, do make it hard to dismiss the Loch Ness Monster, which is known to remain the Queen of all lake monsters. (Searching for the Monster)

One of the questions that people come up on the subject of the Loch Ness Monster is whether or not the creature is just one monster, or if the monster is known to be more than one thing. Almost all of the witnesses described the monster the same way. They say that the monster has two humps, a tail, and a long, snakelike head. Some also say that the monster had a V-shaped wash, and was also known to have horns or antennae on the top of the creatures’ head. People still today are trying to figure out what this creature actually is. AAA number of theories show what this snake-like monster could be. It could be a type of long-necked aquatic seal, a giant eel, walrus, floating mats of plants, giant mollusks, otters, mirages, diving birds, but many lake monster researchers seem to favor the plesiosaur source. Many scientists would like to believe this animal has been extinct for 60 or 70 years. Others think it is possible that after the last Ice Age, the Loch Ness may have been connected to the sea, and some of these dinosaurs may have been stranded.

Over the many sightings the last 60 or 70 years, one of the first sightings was by Mr. and Mrs. George Spicer. They are from London. Their story of their sighting was that they were returning from a holiday in Scotland and a huge, black, long-necked creature struck their car. When the people were describing what had happened, the creature shambled across the road, slid into the bushes into the Loch Ness Lake. Scientists are still to this day trying to find out if this was the Loch Ness Monster that these people had come across. (Sightings from Nessie)

After trying for a while to find the Loch Ness Monster, scientists decided to do some sonar activities. There was a night that a trace was beginning to appear. It was August 14th, and it was at 1:40 in the morning. There were some similar traces just like this one, but nothing was seen in print. There have also been many more traces and contacts through sonar activities, but this was just the start that made scientists want to go out searching more and more for this monster to find it. (Contacts from Nessie)

Of all of the 3000 and more sightings of the Loch Ness Monster, all of the descriptions of the monster were the same. They almost all explain that this creature is known to have a small and thin head, a long neck, a few back humps, a tail, and some say they saw flippers. During the process during a time when they had an underwater camera to see if they could find the creature, scientists could see what looked like flippers that were about seven feet long. Whether or not this creature is really the Loch Ness Monster, which no one will ever know, something is in the Loch Ness Rivers that seems to be some sort of a creature. (Descriptions from Nessie)

Scientists really don’t know who actually spotted the Loch Ness Monster first, but it was known that the Vikings were one of the first people that recorded that they thought that they had found the lake creature. The Vikings all described this creature as a very large animal of some kind. This monster was seen last century, but the man who saw it was too shocked that he actually saw such a thing, so he did not speak too much on the subject. 1996 had the most sightings of the Loch Ness Monster. A lot of listings showed that people said to have seen this monster, but did not see the whole body, just bits and pieces. Most of the sightings were around the area of Fort Augustus. People have seen such things as "long, black humps" swimming across the area of the lake. On September 4th, 1996, a dark hump was seen twice between Dores and Abriachen. These two areas were the main part where they were looking for this creature. On that same day, a shiny black object was spotted north of Fort Augustus. This object had what looked like a 30-foot trail. Again, on that very same day, and at the very same spot, two humps rose from the water. On October 4th, 1996 a dark object with a head and a neck was spotted. People followed this creature for four miles until they could not spot the creature any longer. Just a month and a day later, the object was seen just off Urquhart Castle around the midday or so. Many more sightings were throughout this month, but these sightings were the ones that caught viewer’s attention more than any other ones source.

Most people know that there is really no such thing as a Loch Ness Monster, but it is possible for there to be some kind of creature that no one really knows what to call it. It is also a possibility that what people have said to see, really could have just been a part of their imagination. A lot of the time, people could have just seen a piece of debris of some kind, and just assumed that it was the creature that was brought up years ago. During a time when someone was watching the lake, they could have seen a very weird looking bird of some kind, or some kind of animal, but they could have thought it was the creature. No one will ever know if there is such a thing or not, because there are too many theories, beliefs, and stories. Most of the stories that were told are all the same, but that doesn’t mean that it is all true and that it is for real. There are many people who believe there is such a thing, but there is also enough evidence to show there is no such thing as the Loch Ness Monster.
