The Cabin

As a child I remember going to my grandparents’ cabin on Mina Lake near Aberdeen. My family went to the lake several times a year. We have many other relatives in Aberdeen that we met at my grandparents’ cabin.

I remember waking up early every morning and smelling breakfast being cooked by my grandpa in the kitchen. He usually made waffles and homemade sausage. His sausage was and still is the best sausage in the world.

During the day I would go out in the canoe or paddleboat with my cousin Billy. When we weren’t out on the water, we were either fishing off the dock, playing croquet with my grandma, or catching frogs in the field behind the cabin. Every day was full of activities to do.

Both of my grandparents owned their own garden in the yard. I remember them competing to see who had the best garden. We used the gardens to dig in to get worms for fish bait.

Although the water very unclean, we still went tubing with my uncle. While I was waiting my turn to go in the tube, I enjoyed watching my uncle swing back and forth on skis behind the boat.

When I was little, I looked forward to going to Aberdeen so I could go to the cabin and play with my cousins.
