Lieutenant Carroll died because last night our regiment ran into heavy fire in an area we were trying to protect for sometime now from the Vietcong. Lieutenant Carroll was in the process of getting us out to safety when he was wounded. The chopper came down to try to save him but could not. I know this is not much comfort that our lieutenant died bravely or honorably, but he did.
