Character Sketch
Marietta Greer started life as the daughter of a poor cleaning woman in a hopeless Kentucky town. Her only goal was to escape the confines of her hillbilly up bringing without becoming ‘bare foot and pregnant as was the fate of many of her peers. By the end of her journey she will have gained an Indian child, a handful of friends, and a new name, Taylor Marietta Greer.
Marietta, or Missy, as she was more commonly called, was courageous enough to abandon all that was familiar to her in search of a new life. All she needed was an opportunity and maybe a good hill to get her push start car going and she was off. She didn’t know what she would find on her adventure, but she was willing to let fate guide her on her way.
An empty gas tank in Taylorville brought her a name and a bent rocker arm in Cherokee country delivered her a daughter. Unlike most people Taylor found it in her heart to care for the child that an abusive foster couple had abandoned to care for the child that an abusive foster couple had abandoned in her car.
Taylor is a sassy southern soul with a fire for life and a knack for surviving the worst life has to offer. She’s tall and slender with a build best viewed in a special T-shirt with the slogan ‘Damn I’m good’ across the chest. She has been called a nutter, a hero, and a mother; all these things made her stronger and a better human. Her cunning and refusal to give up are qualities that truly define her character.
Taylor maintained her pride while taking menial jobs to support her new family until her friends Mattie, Lou Anne, and Poppy help her find a full time job and a home for her and the Indian child that she nick named Turtle.
As luck would have it the first man she falls in love with is already married and an illegal alien. Her heart stays in check and she does not advance upon another woman’s man. Taylor showed courage and bravery as she drove him and his wife to the safe house in the middle of Oklahoma. She understood the risk of driving the illegal aliens and took the chance to save her friends.
By the end of her journey Taylor has grown as a person; she has someone who depends upon her, she has found and lost love; and she came out on top with a family and friends that care for her.
To survive Oklahoma you need a lot of caffeine for staying awake so that you may drive straight through none stop. For driving those long hours in the blistering sun a dark pair of shades is a must. To stay alert throughout the dull scenery of Oklahoma some loud blaring music needs to be played, hence the Metallica CD. To keep everyone entertained a game sheet for road kill bingo should be packed near the bottom. To better blend in with the yokels flamboyant Americanized clothing should be packed and worn for the transportation of illegal aliens.
