Character sketch

Jane Gallagher

In the novel, Jane was one of Holden’s old time friends. She had a hard life. Holden didn’t know for sure but he thought that he abused her. IT was a lovely night and Holed and Miss Gallagher were sitting on her porch playing checkers, when you dad came out and asked her where the cigarettes were, she told him she didn’t now and he persisted to ask her. In the novel Holden had so many opportunities to call Jane, but he did not. I know that Holden had this whole big thing with innocence. Holden on the other hand did not want to lose his. He also didn’t want to call Jane. For the simple fact that he didn’t want to have his memories of her is ruins. Holden had an idea that Jane had lost her innocence to the guy that she had currently been dating. She did not. I also think that Holden has this idea that she could have lost her innocence to her father. Also not true. In the end she still did have it. It was a relief to Holden; I think it took some of the pressure off.
