How I Feel About Being in a Cyber-Comp Class

I believe that it is very interesting to be in a class based solely on computer work. It is very interesting to learn without the typical method of taking notes and listening to lectures. Also I enjoy learning how to create a web page based on sharing work with others. It will also be interesting to look at other students work and see how they grow in their style and ability. I believe that this class will be beneficial to learning new skills that I did not posses before. I hope to build an extensive website and then be able to show off my work. This is an exciting new class that I hope others will enjoy.

What I Have Learned

In Cyber-Comp 10, I have learned to create a web page.  I have learned to hyperlink my page to other web pages, as well as to other sites on the Internet. One of the other interesting things that I have learned are to download pictures and hyperlink them, as well as use them to create headers. One of the useful skills that I have learned and utilized is the ability to create a navigation bar. This allows the viewer to easily navigate my web page. I look forward to learning more especially in the area of creating animation, be it banners or short skits.

What My Favorite Thing About My Web page and Why

My favorite thing about my web page are the personalization that one can do without revealing anything. For example, one can create a complete fictional life in which they can express their romanticized ideas that they wish their life contained. I just enjoy the thought of this even though it can be kind of perverse and disturbing to think on it for too long.  Also I enjoy sharing my likes and dislikes in a technological way. My opinions are now on the web for all to see. Hopefully this will open new horizons for people who visit this site so that they may create new interests for themselves.

What I Will  Do With What I Have Learned?

With the useful skills that I learned in this class, I hope to continue making web pages for other classes or just for fun.  Perhaps, in the future, I will live in a remote area of Africa that is just being introduced to modern technology. If this occurs, I will be the only one who can teach them and they will give me lots of treasure. However, how this is highly unlikely, These skills will probably become useless and I will forget them. It has been advantageous to learn as I am in this class because the education continues. So hopefully after this class it could continue as well.

How is this class different from other English classes you've had?

This class is different in the that the student gets to pick their speed at which to work, to an extent. I really enjoy the fact that we do not focus on the more technical aspects of writing, but rather on the quality of information contained in it. Everything in this class takes place on computers. I have not used a pen and pad in this class throughout the whole semester and that is very different from anything in my past. In this English class we have never done D.O.L. and I have in the past. I must say that this is an improvement as those were mind-numbingly boring.

Reflections

At the beginning of the semester, I was a bit uncertain about what sort of class this would be. Then when we were told it was an almost completely independent class, I was a bit incredulous. I had oneirics about what sort of class this would be, and I am not disappointed. I have been given complete creative license and that is most pleasant. Although the people who flank me make concentration hard because of their irksome habits, I have been able to cope nonetheless. It has been great fun watching their maturity increase and then plummet, strangely following the local weather patterns.

Dear Diary/Journal

The time has passed anemically slow since last I talked with you. However, in that time I have become more confidant with my writing style and feel more comfortable around Microsoft FrontPage.

Enough of that arduous task.

I came into this class unknowing about what I would find. At first I was rather contemptuous of the slow detailed pace that our instructor set, but I soon learned that we were allowed to move at our own pace and so it did not matter if I went ahead and took some creative leeway. I find that in setting that this creates, I am able to better stimulate my mind, as I work best alone and am self motivated. Well I suppose that I should close this up so good bye.

Sincerely, yours truly, so long, good night, christian

Final Journal

As the year winds down (one more day left) it is time to reflect for my final cyber journal. Quite frankly I think that this was only busywork. If not pencil-pushing, then key-pushing. I don't think that I am a further developed mentally, psychologically, or physically. Cyber Journals were a waste of time. Which is not to say that CyperComp was. I believe that CyperComp was a very useful class for learning and mastering FrontPage and other computer details. It was not, however, very useful for the development of style, which for some people could hurt them later in their high school careers.

I found this class to be much what I expected. Long periods of boredom mixed with some fun assignments. The boredom usually came because of the extended length given for the assignments. It would have been nice if there had been a deadline before going on. The assignments were the best part though. The instructor gave complete liberal control over what we could cover with only a minimal amount of structure. This allowed me to write about and research topics that I as genuinely  interested in.

I will admit quite freely that the lack of structure enabled me to do more independent learning, which for a literature class is a good thing FOR ME, but others were unable to cope with this, namely the child who sat to my left.  So if this class is offered in the future it should keep the independence, but mix it with some discipline.

I believe that this class was useful for my high school career and I will be able to access what I learned in it for my advantage later on in life, which I cannot say for every other class I take. All in all, for a first year class it was a great experience, and with a heated iron has the potential to be a wonderful class.
