The Imp of the Perverse
~Edgar Allen Poe~
Dear Mr. Poe,
I thoroughly enjoyed your short story, The Imp of the Perverse. I found the introduction to be fascinating, while a bit long-winded and superfluous, it nonetheless was necessary for the story as I discovered in the end.
I admit that I read this story after reading your more commonly stories, The Gold Bug, and Murder in the Rogue Morgue to name a few. I had noticed a pattern in these stories that did not carry on into this one. That is your short introductions that give you the information on the characters. This particular story did not have that, and I was left searching for some history about why this man murdered another human.
I really admire your descriptive way of writing. I feel as though I am in the setting of your stories. Your foreshadowing concerning his admittance of the crime was nothing short of brilliance. how he subliminally became conscience of his crime, and knew he would be punished.
Thank you Mr. Poe for writing this very entertaining story that kept me enthralled in your world for the time it took me to read.
Sincerely,
Christian Lehmann
