The Year I Was Born
When I first came into this world on May 25, 1986. I am sure that it was a bad year for my older brother and sister. They wanted all the attention, but they couldn’t have it because I was the baby, and babies always get all the attention. It was like whatever I wanted, I got, and whatever my brother and sister wanted they couldn’t have because I was "the fragile baby" according to what my mom said.
In that same year there were many other things going on: not just my brother and sister fighting over who will get all the attention. Some of the top grossing films of the 80’s was Top Gun at $79 million, Crocodile Dundee at $70 million, Platoon at $69 million, Karate Kid part 2 at $58 million, and Star Trek4: The Voyage Home at $56 million. If we would ever have enough money my mom would take my brother and sister to them, and I would have to stay home with the babysitter.
There were some bad things that happen in the year 1986. Chester Bowles dies at the age of 85. He was the US senator and the ambassador. Another bad moment that happened in 1986 was the fires in Kinross Gold Mine in South Africa, which killed 177 people. Then the ferryboat Shamia sinks on the Maghna River and killed about 600.
There weren’t always bad times in the year 1986. There was the time that Kansas City Royal George Brett got his 2000th hit of his career. A 95-year-old woman scored a hole-in-one in Florida. The time when Hands Across America had over 7 million people hold hands from California to New York. The Commercial also came out for the Mighty Dog Food in the can. So toward the end of my first year, when I almost able to crawl, it was great because I would be able to discover many new things in the world today.
