October Sky
Have you ever had a dream in life where you wanted to accomplish something; have you ever had an obstacle that you thought you could never overcome? In the movie October Sky, there was a teenager by the name of Homer. Homer and his friends had a dream of building rockets and becoming either a great NASA scientist or a NASA astronaut, but Homer had many obstacles ahead of him.
Homer had to figure out how to get money to pursue his life long dream, and his idea was to get a scholarship to become a rocket man. He also had to tell his dad that he would not be a miner like his dad. Later on he becomes one anyway to help his family out for the medical bills from the accident his father was in. After he talks to his teacher Ms. Riley about his dreams, she decides to help him on his way to becoming a rocket builder.
He and his friends had a long road to travel to accomplish their dreams. First they had their friend Bob that built a rocket for them to test. After their first rocket, they made many more which later on lead to trouble with the law and the whole town. They were accused of starting a forest fire near their town. They were banned from shooting their rockets.
At the end Homer does get his wish. He gets to compete in the science fair in Indianapolis. Homer runs into some trouble, though as he realizes that his rocket presentation was stolen. Thanks to his family and friends he regains a new one sent up to him by his dad. Homer ended up winning the first place medal and shaking the hand of a famous German scientist who he didn’t even realize was his idol that he had just encountered.
When He comes home he lights off his last rocket with the whole town watching and with his dad pressing the button, which let it off as their highest-flying rocket yet. Homer and his friends finally leave their small time town and go off and complete their dreams, while Homer lives his dream out by becoming a NASA scientist.
