This is a contract between Ellen and her grandmother. Ellen will stay with her grandmother as long as she is good, and doesn't cause any problems for her. Ellen has to work for her in the cotton fields in return for room and board. Ellen wants to be treated like a normal child. Her grandmother doesn't want Ellen to be in her will, because she doesn't like her, and doesn't want Ellen to receive anything after she dies.
Ellen and her grandmother will both sign their names in agreement to these terms of the contract.
