Baby Boy

I always thought it would’ve been nice to be the only child, but then my little sister cane along. I don’t really remember her birth that well. When my little brother came though, I was just able to remember a little. I remember the snow lightly fell that late night. I know my dad was happy that he was finally going to have his baby boy, even though he never said it.

When Jason was old enough to come home he did. As he got old enough to crawl, we found out that he pushed himself with his back legs and slid his head on the floor. Eventually he learned how to crawl normally though. When Jason was about one, my little sister was so jealous she didn’t get any attention any more. She tried killing him; she tried shoving her hair barrettes down his little throat.

In the year 1985, the year my brother was born, Roland Reagan was president. Also in this year my dad bought the very first Nintendo game system came out. We still have it today. I remember hearing in the news about how crank cocaine was introduced that year. I remember that we could buy leaded gas at the gas stations no more. I remember mom talking about how some guy named Rock Hudson died from AIDS but at the time I didn’t really know what AIDS was or where it came from. In 1985 the year my brother was born they also said they added one more second to the calendar like it would make a difference.

My dad spoiled him and bought him stuff all the time. He was such a little brat he used to rip the heads off my sister’s and my Barbie dolls. When dad wasn’t around though, he knew to look out because when I was the baby sitter, he had to obey me. When my brother was five, he got a little red power wheels corvette. I never got any cool toys when I was a little kid.

It seemed like during my childhood I could make friends easily, but Jason was always shy and didn’t know what to say. For some reason he went bald and lost his light blonde hair. It came back though. I remember he was a chubby baby and was a chubby kid until he was about four or five. He had a few friends in the neighborhood, but there were bad kids in who lived there, and they would always be getting in trouble. I remember one time Jason came home holding the back of his head. I asked him what was wrong; he told me that the neighbor kids trough a rock at him and it hit him in the back of the head. The poor little boy was scared because the back of his head was bleeding.

In about 1990 my father got laid off from work and had to work at the local Pizza Hut. My dad was a professional baker though. He went to school in Mitchell to be a baker. I remember he would come home late but would always bring us a pizza or two. I also remember one time when dad went to go get his paycheck, and he left Jason and Taunya out in car. At the time he owned a 89’ Trans Am with an eagle all the way across the hood. Jason was pretending to drive it and somehow get the car into neutral, and it started rolling down the pizza hut parking lot. Some guys that they didn’t know stopped the car and had dad came out to see what happened.

As he got older, it seemed like the more I cared for him, and he wasn’t quite as annoying now. He helps out, and he treats his niece well. I am twenty now, and my daughter is about nineteen months old. Jason is sixteen now and is a good loving uncle.
