Golden pup                                                                                                                      

There was once a small farmer who had two daughters, a son, and a wife. He had his son last and was very happy to finally have his boy. He didn’t have a whole lot of money but wanted to buy his son something special for his fifth birthday, so he went all over the village looking for something different. One day the small farmer came across a golden brown dog. When he set eyes on this little pup, he knew it was perfect and his son would love it. The next day the old man went and got the dog. Before he brought it home, he bought a rose red ribbon and put it around the pup’s neck.

When he arrived home, the son never looked so happy. He took very good care of the puppy. The boy spent lots of time with the pup. After awhile he wouldn’t help his dad in the field because he would go play with his golden dog. The dog loved the boy two and he learned how to talk from the boy. Then they knew that this dog truly was different. His father was happy that he son loved his gift so much but regretted not having help. The father missed his son at his side and felt lonesome in the field. Day seemed to be passing slowly for the old man. Well winter was coming soon, which meant they would have to get by with what they had. The pup that was now getting bigger and more expensive was still growing closer to the boy. When winter did come, the golden pup would pull the little boy around on an old sled.

When there was just one month or so of winter left, the father was almost out of everything. After he spent everything he had left, he didn’t know what to do. One night, when he thought they would starve for sure, he stole the dog from his boy and sold it to a man who had a team of dogs and needed one more dog to pull his sled. The dog tried to talk his way out of but the father had no choice and told him he must go. In the morning the boy found food to eat and lots of it. After he was done eating, he went looking for the golden pup of his. The boy looked everywhere. Finally he asked his dad if he had seen the dog. His father told him what had happened and the boy locked himself in his room for days.

The father felt very bad for what he had done and wanted to do anything to make his son feel better. So the father and the boy set out on a journey for the special dog. They looked in the village and all over the countryside. They asked many people if anybody had seen the little pup, but nobody knew anything. They never heard anything of the dog until the next winter. People were talking about how there was a dog sled team coming through the village. This got the boy excited, and he wondered if it was the sled team his dad sold the golden dog too.

When the dog team came a big golden brown dog led it. The boy didn’t think it was his because his was a lot smaller. The dog told the boy he was very happy to see him and missed him very much. These took all the kids doubts away only his dog could talk. In one year the dog had grown lot different. The father offered the man two hundred dollars for the dog, and the dog was back on the farm playing with his boy again. The dog sled team found a new dog to lead his team. Everybody was happy.
