Summer Sanitarium by Kellie
July 20th 2000, my dad and I left for Chicago Illinois for Metallica's ‘Summer Sanitarium 2000’ concert. The show had a great lineup of Metallica, System of a Down, KoRn, Powerman 5000 and Kid Rock.
We arrived the next night to the Chicago Motor Speedway where the concert was held. We slept outside the building overnight; there were also some other people waiting there too, people of all ages.
When the doors were opened, I could feel the adrenaline in the air. The first band and one of my favorite bands, System of a Down played first. The next band that played was Powerman 5000, they were pretty awesome. Then it was Kid Rock. I don’t much like Kid Rock, but some of his songs are all right. After that, my favorite band (at the time), KoRn came on. They put on a great show, and they sound better live [than on the radio/TV]. Next was the band that most people were waiting for; METALLICA. Metallica was putting on an overwhelming show.
The whole experience was grand, and I can’t even put it in words. The mosh pit was intense. I got some bruises and the worst whiplash I’ve had yet; but that could change (I’m going to a Tool concert in October).
