     Holden is the type of person who isn’t quite sure of what to do with his life and it looks like he doesn’t quite know where he is going. In total, Holden had been kicked out of three schools and doesn’t seem to really care that he is being not only a disappointment to his parents but to the few teachers that have grew to like him. Holden isn’t really involved in any of the school academics he maybe watched a few but didn’t really ever participate. He watched a game once only for a little while though. He wasn’t really paying attention to the game, it was one of his last days at Pencey and he was in his own way saying buy to the school.

    After leaving Pencey, Holden decides to venture off to New York. Holden criticizes everyone in sight, because of their clothes or the way they act, his reason for this is because they are phony. Holden fakes everyone and himself out by saying that he is really twenty-two, hoping to win a couple drinks here and there so maybe time will pass by faster before it is time to go home. After one evening of being completely hammered, Holden stumbles to his hotel and is greeted by a bellboy who offers a little entertainment for the night. While the night is still young, a young lady knocks on Holden’s door. Who else but a prostitute awaits Holden? Holden then decides that maybe this isn’t such a good way to lose his virginity. After some complication the young lady leaves and shortly returns. Holden has shortchanged her and the bellboy isn’t too happy. After the matter is solved, Holden then decides that it is time to get out of this hotel and away from all these phony people.

    After Holden leaves the hotel he goes to the duck pond; after that he walks home to see Phoebe. He sneaks into his house, so his parents don’t wake up, and wakes Phoebe. They start talking and Phoebe asks him why he is home so early and they get into an argument because he got kicked out and Phoebe knows he did. Holden had lit up a cigarette and at that time his parents came home and came to check on Phoebe and they asked her if she had been smoking and she said she tried it but threw it out the window. Then Holden leaves again and goes to Mr. Antolini’s.

    While Holden was visiting Phoebe at his house, their parents came home so Holden left in a hurry. He went and stayed with his old professor Antolini. As Holden was asleep he woke up to an unusual pat of his head. Realizing it was Mr. Antolini he left in a hurry.

    From that point on Holden realized what he had to do. He had to just get away from his home, his family, and his life in general. So he said goodbye to his sister, who was very persistent in coming along with him. From there he decided to go to California or maybe even the woods at that.
