Ralph's Diary
Anna
Dear Diary,
I finally found other people on this island! I found a boy named Piggy first; actually, I think he has a real name, but he said people used to call him Piggy. When he told me that, I laughed so hard that I almost made him cry! He told me not to tell anyone that people used to call him that. He's kind of fat and seems like a baby. He always talks about his Auntie. Piggy and I found a conch in the water and I blew on it to make a loud noise. A whole bunch of boys must have heard it because they all came to the lagoon. There are lots of little boys and there's a choir led by a boy named Jack. He seems kind of pushy. We all decided that since we're stuck here, we ought to make some rules and have a chief. Almost everyone voted for me to be chief, probably because I was the one who assembled us all. We appointed people to do certain things...Jack and the choir said they'd be hunters. Well, I'd better try to get some sleep now. I'm so glad I'm not alone anymore!

Dear Diary,
Today, Jack, Simon, and Me went on an expedition to see if this was actually an island or not. Piggy wanted to come too, but we wouldn't let him. Then, he got upset because I told the other boys that his name was Piggy. I said, "Better Piggy than Fatty!" I felt kind of bad about that, but I didn't want Jack and Simon to think I was a wimp or anything. We had to climb a long way up a big mountain, but we made it. We found our that it is an island, and there are no boats and no villages. We found a pig, though. We tried to catch it, but it got away. After that, we just went back to the lagoon and told the other boys the bad news about nobody else being on the island. I wonder if we'll ever get rescued.
