When I first sat down to write this I thought to myself, "Self, what can we say about Nick that won’t violate several vows of secrecy and in turn send Nick into a crazed killing spree?"
Nicholas was by no stretch of the imagination a normal child. His parents noticed he was different when he asked for a set of throwing knifes and a flamethrower for his ninth birthday. His teachers noticed he was different when he began reading The Hobbit in the first grade, a book thicker than most first grader’s arms. I noticed that he was different when he wanted to be my friend.
From the very first time I spoke to Nick, I knew he was different from the other kids. Even back in the first grade he was using words the teacher had to look up. His vocabulary and sharp wit always made him stand out from the crowd. No one can point out the stupidity of others quite like Nick.
I can safely say that I learned everything I need to know about sarcasm from Nick. Sometimes being cynical, darkly hilarious, and slightly psychotic can be very redeemable qualities. Nick is probably the only man I know who can get bloodstains out of carpet and other materials. Also, he’s the only one I would ever pass out around.
When I was in elementary school, and saw Nick every day, I often wondered what he would look like all grown up all the way in high school. I pictured a complete metamorphosis, but like everyone he just got taller. Nick currently stands at around 5’10 and has a slender build. The most drawing aspect of his whole being in my opinion is his swirling emerald eyes. I’ve always heard that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and I didn’t believe it till I looked into his eyes and saw a part of him he almost never revealed, with such passion and heart, a part of the human body that could only be described as the soul. His green eyes that laughed and seethed with emotion, even when no other facial feature betrayed his feelings were truly the windows to his soul.
Though it may seem from what I’ve written that I know Nick well, I don’t. He surprises me every day, showing me a new part of his personality that I never knew existed. Without Nick, my life would be a barren waste land of boredom and wasted punch lines.
