What happened after Frank's Suicide

    Soon after the suicide of Frank Hayden, David’s family decided to move. David’s mother said she could not continue to live in Bentrock. David and his family moved to Fargo, North Dakota. Wesley got a job as a lawyer. David’s mom was happy with that, "Wouldn’t you like to follow in your father’s foot steps and become a lawyer?" David’s mother would say to him. David thought it was more appropriate that he become the next sheriff of Mercer County. David got a job teaching and married a lady named Betsy. Betsy also teaches. The Haydens decided they never would discuss with anyone what happened with Frank, but would never forget what happened that summer in 1948.
