Jack The Ripper

"Dear Boss, I keep on hearing the police have caught me but they won't fix me just yet...I am down on whores and I shan't quit ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave the lady [ref. to Annie Chapman] no time to squeal. How can they catch me know? I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me and my funny little games... The next job I do I shall clip the lady's ears off and send to the police officers just for jolly...Keep this letter back till I do a bit more work, then give it out straight. My knofe is nice and sharp. I want to get to work right away if I get a chance. Good luck. Yours truly, Jack the Ripper" (Jack the Ripper).  A man that has only been seen at night has killed five ladies; who is this man named Jack the Ripper?

“He comes from out of the fog, kills violently and quickly and disappears without a trace.” (Bardsley).  This unknown man killed these people between August and November of 1888 (Ryder, and Piper).  Most of the ladies that he killed were between the ages of 39 and 47, and they were also prostitutes.  One of the factors that people are using to find out who this killer was is that the killings happened from midnight to six A.M, and they usually were on the weekends or not holidays. The Ripper investigators are thinking this killer would have had a full-time job.  All of the killings also occurred in White Chapel.  This man wore a flowing cape, black suit, and, of course, a black silk top hat also.  That is how he is pictured anyway.  The Police and many people got letters throughout the whole killing spree.  A direct quote from Jack the Ripper on the first letter was: “My knife's so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away if I get a chance” (Jack the Ripper).  This Letter was written on September 25, 1888.

Finding all of these facts out, still today nobody knows for sure how many women were victims of Jack the Ripper.  The number that is most popular is five.    There was no sign of any intercourse with any of the ladies.  The Ripper did always take something from each of the bodies.  After that he strangled all of the ladies and completely mutilated them.  The five victims of Jack the Ripper were Mary Ann Nicholls, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catharine Eddowes, Mary Jeanette Kelly.  Mary Ann was 43 when she died on August 31, 1888.  Annie Chapman was 47 and passed away on the 8th of September.  Elizabeth Stride and Catharine Eddowes both died on September 31, 1888; they were only about half of a mile apart.  Mary Jeanette Kelly passed away on the 9th of November; she was only 25 years old.  All of the ladies were mutilated terribly.  The last victim had all of her organs taken out, and the investigators could barely figure out whom she was (Rubinstein).

There are many theories on who Jack the Ripper could have been.  Three suspects were named in a document in the 1890’s.  They were Montague Druitt; `Kosminski', a Polish Jew; and `Michael Ostrog, a Russian doctor'.  For about twenty years Montague Druitt was the number one suspect.  Many more suspects like these have no good evidence that show that they could’ve been Jack the Ripper.  There was a huge case on how Maybrick could be Jack the Ripper.  Investigators found a diary of Maybrick’s, and there are many writings in there that make them think that Maybrick was Jack the Ripper.  The Ripper’s killing had a couple of time spans.  He would write when he would leave and tell people when he would be back.  James Maybrick was known to make many business trips also.  In the diary it also says that Maybrick confessed to his wife that he was Jack the Ripper, right before he died. (Rubinstein)

Many people have wondered where somebody would have gotten the diary.  Alice Yapp a servant stole it from the household, and before she died she passed it on to William’s stepmother, who was a friend of the family.  Another theory is that William Graham was the son of Florence Maybrick, and Alice Yapp left it at the Graham’s household because she knew that they were family of Maybrick’s. (Rubinstein.)

One of the more popular theories is that Prince Albert Victor was Jack the Ripper. Many books that have been written have said that Prince Albert Victor was the killer.  The two most popular theories are that of Prince Albert Victor and James Maybrick.

Theories and facts on Jack the Ripper have been going around the world forever.  Here are just a couple of quotes from Jack the Ripper. Good luck. Yours truly, Jack the Ripper" (Jack the Ripper)

"I was not codding [joking], dear old Boss, when I gave you the tip. you'll hear about Saucy Jack's work tomorrow. Double event this time. Number one squealed a bit. Couldn't finish straight off. Had not time to get ears for police. Thanks for keeping last letter back till I got to work again. Jack the Ripper." (Jack the Ripper).  Those are just a few of the notes that Jack wrote to the Police and to his boss.

Throughout all of the facts, I believe that the theory on James Maybrick is true. All the facts that have been written are mostly about Maybrick.  Also many facts that support him are true.  On some of the other suspects all of the facts on them turned out to be false, but not with James.  Still to this day nobody knows exactly who Jack the Ripper was, but there are many theories.  Someday somebody will find out who Jack the Ripper was.
