bag searches

How do you feel about backpack and locker searches? Principals of many schools now are having these searches. They think that it will keep the children safe.

I don’t think that the searches are needed. If we had searches of backpacks and purses in our school, I would feel like my privacy was invaded. Locker searches are not the problem. Nobody usually keeps very personal things in their lockers. If you were to have something personal in your backpack, how would you feel if somebody was digging around in there?

If the school is having problems with guns or knives or something of that sort, they should set up metal detectors as the children walk into the school. Therefore, nobody would be looking into anyone’s bags.

If there is a probable cause to look into somebody’s bag, then it’s okay. Suppose that somebody saw a gun or knife in somebody’s bag, and they told the principal or counselor. That would be a good reason to search someone’s belongings. I just don’t think its fair if you get your things searched though when there isn’t a reason for it.

There are many conflicts between these two decisions. How do you feel about getting backpack or purse searched? There are and will always be arguments about these two decisions.
