Many people have to go though obstacles to get to their dreams everyday. In the movie "October Sky" one of Homer’s obstacles that after he and his four friends were launching rockets, a fire started, and everybody in the town thought that it was from their rockets, so the four boys got arrested, but Homer over came that because he came up with a big long equation to find out how far their rocket flew. Homer went to the rocket and proved that the rocket didn’t start the fire.
When Homer’s father got hurt in the coalmine, Homer decided to fill his job. He didn’t even care about the rocket anymore. He pretty much gave up. Then he went to talk to his teacher Mrs. Riley, and she gave him some good advice which was that you can’t give up on something that you want to do otherwise you are never going to reach your goal. That is when he came up with the equation to show that his friends and him didn’t start that fire..
Homer over came the obstacle of getting arrested by his teacher telling him not to give up, then he started right back up, and his four friends and he were in the science fair, and they won. One of the boys got to go to Indiana to present. When he got there, he had another obstacle which was that one of his objects got stolen, so he had to call home, and they sent him another one.
Though all of this, his dad pulled though and didn’t just care about the mine. At the beginning of the movie Homer’s father didn’t believe in him at all; all he wanted Homer to do was to be exactly like him and be a miner. That was another obstacle to overcome, and he did when his father started to believe in him
There are many obstacles that everybody has to overcome to be or do what he or she wants to do.
