By: Traci

"Ouch! I can't believe I just did that!" I had just gotten my training wheels off that day, and I was going to learn to ride my bike like a "big" girl. The spring sun was shining down on me as a cool breeze blew across my hands. I took a big swallow, and I was off.

"I think you’ve got it Traci!" yelled my parents. I was doing well until the turn came.

"Oh no! How do I do this?" I screamed.

"Turn, turn!" yelled my sister who was right behind me.

"How?’ I asked. I could see the pole right ahead of me. It was getting closer and closer. Next thing I knew, I was lying there with my bike on top of me. I could feel the soft bed of grass beneath me.

Tears started to run down my cheeks; I had missed the turn and run into the pole instead. "That’s going to leave a mark," said my sister.

"Ouch! Come help me!" I yelled. I saw my parents running toward me. We hurried back into our house. Nothing serious had happened, but the pole had left its mark! I had goose egg on my forehead and a gray line running down my cheek. The pole was fine; it just had a little slant to one side.

After my tears were dried and with some encouraging words from my parents and sister, I decided to get out thee and show everyone I was a "big girl" and beat the pole. This time when my sister said "Run!" I was already going, and I did it this time.

"I did it!" I yelled in joy.

From this incident I learned that even if I get hurt or don’t win, I have to get back in there and keep trying and never give up. This day proved there would be bumps and bruises as I go trough life.
