NAACP

NAACP stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.  This organization works to bring equality to almost every state in the United States and to brush out the discriminations in the U.S. states.  There is a branch of the NAACP in almost every state in the United States and in these states the NAACP works for less discrimination in every aspect of life.  The primary purpose of the NAACP is to ensure political, educational, social, and economic equality for minority groups in the United States.  The NAACP presently ensures equality for all minorities and holds beneficial programs such as career fairs to aid the groups in finding work.  Other programs such as Financial Empowerment Initiative, Armed Services and Veteran’s Affairs, Health, Labor, Religious Affairs, and Voter Empowerment also contribute in aiding the minority groups.

The NAACP is directly related and involved with the book.  In “Warriors Don’t Cry” by Melba Pattillo Beals, the NAACP works hard to break down the segregation barrier and gain equality for the “Little Rock nine” in Central High School.  They made efforts to lessen violence and helped the “Little Rock nine” gain communal support where possible.  The NAACP also brought court cases against Governor Faubus to gain admittance into Central High School.  Without the NAACP schools may still be segregated today.
