Mia Couto
Mia Couto was born in Beria, Mozimbican in 1955. He began medical school when he moved to Maputo. This career did not end up working for him since he was highly invovled in independent struggle. He ended up become the director of AIM, a magazine named Tempo, and later was of a daily newspaper. His first poem book was published in 1983. It was called 'Raiz d'orvalho'. It was translated into English and called Voices Made Night, which was awarded the National Prize for Literature. This book has been translated into many languages and formed into stories on radios, and made into stage plays. He was also awarded a prize by the ONJ. Everyman in a Race, his next story was published in Portugal in 1991.
