Chapter 1
" In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing." In this first chapter of the book it talks about Norman, Paul, and their father and how much they enjoy fishing. Their father, who is a preacher taught them both how to fly-fish and taught them everything they know. This chapter I thought was slow in the beginning and kind of boring. But I am not really a fishing person so I didn't know what they were talking about.
pg 15-30
"One great thing about fly-fishing is that after awhile of fishing nothing exists of the world but the thoughts of fly-fishing." In this chapter Paul and Norman go fishing. I liked this section of the chapter. Paul obviously is the better fisherman but is more of a trouble maker than Norman. Paul takes one of his girl friends to a restaurant and a man yells "Wahoo" and Paul's friend and Paul pounces him in return. Paul was taken to the police station and help there till Norman came and got him. The book is starting to become more interesting.
pg 30-45
"Even though Paul had three or four fish by now, I took my time walking down the trail, each step trying to leave the world behind." In this section of the book, Paul, Norman, and Norman's brother in law Neal go fishing during the day. That night the three of them go to a local bar in their town. Norman describes, a local woman known as Old Rawhide, as a women that would usually "hook up" with local fisherman for the night. She noticed Neal on this particular night. This book is getting easier more interesting the more you read.
pg 45-60
"The truck emerged out of the storm as if out of the pioneer past, looking like a covered wagon besieged by circling rain." "I was in the same old box."
pg 60-75
"Somehow it is hard to quit with an odd number of fish, so I wanted one more for four, but I had to work to get him." "Much as he hated her, he really had no strong feeling about her."
pg 75-104
"I didn't mind that he spoiled the hole before I filled my basket, because there was another big hole between us and father." "I am haunted by the waters."
